eBay - Resolving "Inventory-based listing management is not currently supported by this tool - " Error

What is this error?

When attempting to update inventory levels or pricing for your eBay listings, you may encounter the following error message:

"Inventory-based listing management is not currently supported by this tool. Please refer to the tool used to create this listing."

This error occurs because the affected listings were created using an outdated and deprecated version of eBay's Inventory API or through a third-party tool that utilized these legacy APIs. Due to eBay's API restrictions, these listings cannot be modified through our current system.

Why does this happen?

This error specifically indicates that:

  1. The listing was created using an outdated and deprecated eBay API that is no longer fully supported by eBay
  2. A previous third-party integration tool created the listing using these legacy APIs
  3. eBay has restricted modification of these listings through modern API connections

Important: eBay has been phasing out older API versions as part of their platform modernization. Listings created with these deprecated APIs have limited compatibility with current tools and will need to be recreated to ensure full functionality.

How to resolve this issue

Primary Solution: Recreate the product listing

Because the listing was created with an outdated and deprecated API, the product will need to be recreated to resolve this issue permanently:

  1. End the current listing on eBay through your eBay Seller Hub
  2. Create a completely new listing for the product through our platform
  3. This will establish the listing with current API connections, ensuring full compatibility with our inventory management tools

Note: While recreating the listing will reset your sales history and watchers, this is the only reliable solution for listings created with deprecated APIs.
