Expected Format for FFL Orders

When submitting FFL (Federal Firearms License) orders, please provide the FFL number and its expiration date in the correct format to ensure compliance and avoid processing delays.

1. FFL Number Format

The FFL number is a 15-digit identifier, typically formatted as:

Standard Format:
6-16-XXX-XX-XX-04554

  • First 3 digits: Region and district office (e.g., 616)
  • Last 5 digits: Unique identifier for the licensee (e.g., 04554)

You may provide:

  • The first 3 and last 5 digits together (e.g., 61604554)
  • Or the full formatted FFL (e.g., 6-16-XXX-XX-XX-04554)

If you have the complete FFL, always send the full 15-digit number in the standard format.

2. FFL Expiry Date Format

The expiration date of the FFL must be provided as:

Format:
YYYY-MM-DD

  • Year: 4 digits (e.g., 2022)
  • Month: 1 or 2 digits (e.g., 4 or 04)
  • Day: 1 or 2 digits (e.g., 1 or 01)

Examples:
2022-4-1
2022-04-01

3. Submission Guidelines

  • Always provide both the FFL number (in the correct format) and the expiration date with every FFL order.
  • If only a partial FFL number is available, include at least the first 3 and last 5 digits (e.g., 61604554), but the full FFL is preferred.
  • Double-check the expiration date to ensure the license is valid at the time of order.

4. Sample FFL Order Data

ffl_number: 6-16-XXX-XX-XX-04554
ffl_expiry: 2022-4-1

ffl_number: 61604554

Summary:
Always provide the full FFL number in its standardized format and the expiration date in YYYY-MM-DD format when placing FFL orders. This ensures legal compliance and helps avoid order delays.
