Handling eBay Product Insert Errors
When attempting to push items to eBay, Spark Shipping automatically processes your listings to minimize the need for manual intervention. However, there are times when we cannot automatically match product details to the specific formatting or requirements that eBay mandates.
Below is a running list of common example errors and scenarios to help you identify and resolve these listing blocks.
Fill in eBay Item Specifics Error:
You may encounter this issue visually via the user interface (UI) or when reviewing the product push job logs.
An error regarding Item Specifics is almost always the first roadblock you will face when pushing products from your catalog to eBay.

How to Fix:
- Navigate to the individual item and click Edit.
- Review the available item specific fields on the product edit page.
- Add the required values. Tip: If you are unsure of the exact text to enter, search for the exact product title directly on eBay and copy the values used by similar active listings.
- Save your changes, update the product, and attempt to push the item to eBay again.

If it fails a second time, check your job logs to see which remaining specific values eBay is still requesting.

The item cannot be listed or modified (Error 240):

When pushing certain products, specific keywords in your product titles or descriptions will trigger automated blocks from eBay. To resolve this, you must adjust the text to comply with eBay's Terms of Service (TOS).
How to Fix:
You must edit the product details in your catalog to remove these restricted phrases and focus purely on standard, compliant replacement terminology before attempting to push the product to eBay again.
Common Scenarios:
-
Fragrance/Cosmetics: For some particular products, in the niche of fragrances, we've encountered an issue that the product title containing "unboxed" could not be used. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to continue this type of listing. Testers and unboxed items of certain top cosmetic brands aren’t allowed on eBay.
- Automotive / Exhaust Systems (Emissions Control Policy)
When listing automotive parts (especially in categories like Exhaust System Kits), eBay's automated system scans for keywords that violate their Emissions Control Defeat Devices Policy.
If a listing fails with Error Code 240 and a message referencing emissions, it is usually triggered by specific phrases in your product description or features.
- Common Trigger Words: Phrases like "off-road design", "racing only", or "not for sale in California" will cause eBay to instantly block the listing.
