Requesting a UPC/GTIN Exemption on Walmart

Overview

If you sell products without UPC/GTIN codes (e.g., private label or handmade items), you must request an exemption from Walmart Seller Support before enabling this option in your account. This guide provides step-by-step instructions to request a UPC/GTIN exemption in Walmart Seller Center.

Steps to Request a UPC/GTIN Exemption

  1. Log in to Walmart Seller Center

  2. Navigate to the Help Section

  3. Request the UPC Exemption

    • Click on Request Exemption under the Items and Inventory section.

    • Choose UPC Exemption from the available options.

  4. Provide the Required Information

    • Enter details about your products, including:

      • Brand name

      • Product category

      • Explanation for why your products do not have UPC/GTIN codes

    • Attach any supporting documents if required by Walmart.

  5. Submit the Request

    • Review your information and submit the request.

    • Walmart Seller Support will review your submission and notify you of the decision.

Enabling UPC/GTIN Exemption (Staff-Only Option)

Once your exemption is approved, staff can enable this setting to allow products without UPC/GTIN codes to be listed. This should only be done after receiving confirmation from Walmart.

Additional Notes

  • Approval times may vary, so check your Seller Center inbox for updates.

  • If your request is denied, review Walmart’s guidelines and ensure all required information is provided before resubmitting.

  • If you encounter issues, contact Walmart Seller Support for further assistance.

By following these steps, you can successfully request a UPC/GTIN exemption and continue listing your products on Walmart without these codes.
